Traditional dental insurance plans

Traditional dental insurance plans provide payment for dental treatment. Payment may be covered full or 50% or any other amount of cost of treatment of any individual. Most of the cases dental treatment for the individual has not been fully covered by the insurance company and patient have to pay rest of the amount. It has Usual, Customary, and Reasonable dental insurance plans or Table of allowances dental insurance plans.

Managed Care Dental Insurance Plans

Capitation Dental Plans (Dental Health Maintenance Organizations).
Preferred Provider Organization ("PPO") dental insurance plans.
Exclusive Provider Organization ("EPO") dental insurance plans.

In these plans insurance companies directly contracted with dentists.

Discount or Referral Dental Plans

In these dental plans insurance companies contracted with dentists to give discount to the patients referred by the insurance company to that dentist. The company administers the dental plan and acts as an intermediary between dentists and patients. Here patient pay for membership of dental plan and some amount of fee to dentist.
