Dental Implants
What are dental implants?
Dental implants are made of titanium. These are threaded sections that are placed in bone of the lower or upper jaws. They provide support for crowns, dentures, and bridges. They can be used as replacement of single, groups, or all missing teeth. Success rate of them are about 90% they can be expected to last for 20 years or more.
Safety
Titanium is a biocompatible material and it does not produce an immune response to the body. Sterile techniques are very safe to place them into bones. Due to this nature they are very popular as healing product. In any case if implant fails then it is due to failure of healing not because of any immune response by body.
Suitability
Suitability depends upon the health of remaining teeth. They must be healthy; their surrounding bone and gum tissues should be healthy because dental disease increases the stresses on implant supported teeth and causing failure or damage. Implants are not advised for people less than 18 years of age due to changes that are going on with growth and maturation
Procedures
Mostly implant treatment includes surgery, assessment, healing and tooth replacement which takes 4 to 6 months in simple cases while in complex cases this can increase up to and beyond a year. One to three implants involved in mostly cases. Fitting of two implants approximately takes up to an hour in surgery in simple cases.
